The original renegade homo punks of sketch comedy
celebrate their 10th anniversary at The Villa Resort.

THE NELLIE OLESONS

"Brazen sketch comedy trio is high-octane, high-camp" - Vanity Fair
“Clearly nothing is off limits for this raucous comedy group” - Entertainment Weekly

"Defiantly disgusting and refreshingly raunchy" - Los Angeles Times

"Inarguably hilarious! Much too good for prime time" - The New York Times

Los Angeles, CA – Inspired by the feral spoiled brat icon of Little House On The Prairie, THE NELLIE OLESONS will appear at The Villa Resort as part of its OUT-rageous comedy cabaret series March 16 and 17 in NIGHT OF 100 NELLIES. The show features more than 50 characters skewering the likes of circuit queen dads, public relation whores, boxing ring girls, high kicking Spanish TV hosts, plus-size models, “mangina” and pageantry, pageantry, pageantry. Among the pieces are new classics from the twisted brains of Terrence Michael (“Momma & Elda” - Grey Gardens meets Sybil), John Cantwell (a nude shower pas de deux tribute to Psycho’s Janet Leigh) and Nora Burns (who brings back her beloved borscht belt character, “Menorah, the Jewish Madonna”). Founded by Burns and Michael in New York in 1993 (Cantwell joined in 1996 making 2006 the trio’s 10th year together), the Nellies have created 10 critically acclaimed sketch comedy shows and have toured the U.S. and Canada extensively. Based in LA since 1998, they have performed at Luna Park, Highways, The Laugh Factory, The Improv and the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center, among other venues. Their short film, The Nellie Olesons, won the Audience Award for Best Short Video at Outfest in 1997. Currently the Nellies are featured in Outlaugh: The Movie (available on dvd from Wolfe Video March 13) and on the second season of Logo’s Wisecrack series. Recent live performances include stops at Toronto’s “We’re Funny That Way” Festival, the legendary Pilgrim House at the Vixen in Provincetown, Mass., the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Renberg Theatre and NYC’s east village hot spot, Mo Pitkins. After these west coast performances the Nellies will return to the Vixen in Provincetown for a July/August, 2007 run.

Written by Michael and Burns, NIGHT OF 100 NELLIES features an ‘80’s mash-up of music by Mr. Dan (Dragstrip ‘66), choreography by Cantwell and costumes by Carol Cutshall (Adam & Steve, The O.C., One Tree Hill). The show brings together traditional sketches, dance routines, monologues and musical numbers in a little over an hour. Blend it with the Nellies “shorter is better” brand of humor, trashy costumes and random wigs and you are in for one balls to wall night of comedy.
