A New Cabaret Venue Opens At The Villa Resort

A new venue has just been completed at The Villa Resort in Cathedral City in time for a season of world-class cabaret performances. The space, called The V Lounge Cabaret and Supper Club, can seat up to 125 patrons. The new Lounge, designed by designer Hugh Gaspar and architect Brandon Wood, is architecturally significant and includes a tension fabric canopy structure and a hexagon shaped granite, steel and neon “Showbar” seating 34 with sight lines to the cabaret stage. The bar is topped by a thirty foot high “masthead” at the apex of the canopy structure. Colored “Smart” lights, programmed to the tempos of the music, will play across the canopy.

The future meets the past in the venue which is located in the U-shape created by the existing 19th century adobe structure now housing the dining rooms and kitchen of The Villa Resort’s award-winning restaurant, Butterfield’s Adobe. The V Lounge is part of a 3.5 million dollar renovation project undertaken by the owners of The Villa Resort, Reuel Olin and Bob Grinchuk, almost three years ago.

Last year The Villa Resort staged entertainment events on its green or in a pavilion tent and featured such performers as Betty Buckley and Lorna Luft and musical revues such as Nunsense-A-Men and Side By Side By Sondheim, all to positive critical notice and public response. This year, in the new venue, the intention is to present more intimate performances while still offering the dinner theatre or show-only options that have been a successful formula for the resort.

Yve Evans, the acclaimed song stylist, will entertain patrons Wednesday evenings from 7-11 pm at no cover starting September 13; those evenings the restaurant will serve a hand-carved prime rib buffet from 5-10 pm for $24.95. Each Thursday through Saturday evening, the V Lounge will present a cabaret show, at varying cover prices, starting at 8 pm. September, for example, will feature British-American recording artist Carole Hampton on Sept 21-23 and Broadway star Heather MacRae singing the songs of her father, legendary film idol Gordon MacRae, September 28-30. A special 3-course dinner show menu is available at 6 pm.

On Sunday evenings, the resort plans to feature a “Pops goes The Villa” instrumental combo and a Wild Game dinner menu, including boar, venison and shark.

Let the good times at The Villa Resort begin again!
